Rio Tinto Coal Australia’s Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) is one of the largest multi-seam open cut mining operations in Australia. An excellent opportunity exists for an experience surveyor to commence an exciting career within the mining industry at this complex and technologically-advanced operation.
Reporting to the Mine Planning Superintendent, you will be accountable for the accurate measurement of the pit environment including pit layouts, structural pick ups and calculation of mined material volumes. You will use this data to maintain the digital terrain model and be involved in the introduction of new survey tools including laser scanners as well as maintenance of the GPS system. You will also be involved in aerial photography coordination and responsible for end of month reporting in your section of the operation.

You will ideally have tertiary qualifications in surveying along with some experience in either the mining or cadastral work. Experience with survey applications such as Minescape is essential as is an ability to work cooperatively in a small team environment. NSW Statutory authorisation would be advantageous, but not essential. You must be willing to work towards obtaining this qualification and support will be provided to achieve this.
